Time to make a change and choose Natural Shampoos & Conditioners

Natural hair products do not contain harsh chemicals that can cause allergic reactions or skin irritation. The most common chemicals found in regular shampoos and conditioners are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) and Parabens. SLS and SLES are added to shampoos to make them lather up, while Parabens are used as preservatives. These chemicals not only damage our health, but they are also environmental pollutants, with harmful chemicals ending up in our rivers and seas. By choosing natural shampoos and conditioners, you know exactly what you are exposing yourself and your family to. While natural and organic shampoos may not lather as much, this does not mean they are ineffective in cleaning your hair. Unlike toxin-free hair products, most regular shampoos will strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving both hair and scalp dry and making hair more prone to damage.
Which natural shampoo works best for me?
The main question you should ask yourself when choosing a natural shampoo is what your major hair concern is. Is your hair oily, dry, damaged, or too frizzy? Are you trying to prevent hair colour from fading between washes? Natural and organic hair products are specifically formulated to help you achieve your desired outcome while nourishing both your scalp and hair with vitamins, minerals, oils, and botanical extracts.
I have tried a natural shampoo but do not think it works.
It is a common misconception that natural shampoos do not work. The reason why you might feel this way is that silicones and sulphates are not present in them. Silicones are popular with most mainstream conditioners and styling products because they are used as a coating barrier and initially give an illusion of shiny and healthy hair. However, they are mostly not water-soluble, and the more you use a silicone-based product, the quicker it will build up on your hair. The build-up will prompt more washing, and more washing will lead to dry hair and scalp. The only chemical that can dissolve silicone is sulphate. Unfortunately, sulphates are known irritants to the skin, eyes, and scalp and are simply too harsh, drying, and disruptive to the hair and skin. This creates a vicious cycle. Before making the switch to natural hair care, ensure you are not using any hair products containing silicones and sulphates because the two are interdependent. You will need to use a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any silicone buildup. You will have to repeat this process every time you use a product that has silicones (e.g. at a hair salon). Once you have eliminated all the damaging components from your hair routine, choose a natural shampoo and conditioner, followed by natural hair masks and styling products that work best for your hair type.
